When it comes to redecorating your living room, you’d be surprised how a few small changes can make a space look and feel completely different.
Redecorating your home can sometimes feel like an overwhelming job. But instead of giving your living room a complete overhaul, we like to choose versatile furniture items that will stand the test of time, and simply switch out textiles and accessories to create a fresh new look when needed.
To show you just how easy it can be to update your living room, we wanted to showcase 3 ways to style the same sofa, rug, coffee table and sideboard using different colour palettes, homewares and artworks. Keep scrolling to see exactly how we achieved each look, including some product picks from our range to get you started!
Living Room Look 1: Coastal Blues
It’s no secret that we love a fresh coastal palette here at Tailored Space! To create our first look, we introduced a pop of coastal colour using watercolour artworks, nautical accessories, printed cushions and statement vases in varying shades of teal, navy and blue to complement the neutral tones of the existing furniture. We used organic elements such as the botanical print of our Splice Dusk artworks and rope details of our Keely lamp to enhance the coastal styling and create a light, airy and relaxed space.
Living Room Look 2: Abstract Pastels
For our second look, we moved away from the traditional coastal tones and embraced a more artistic and contemporary pastel palette. Hints of indigo, lilac, yellow, mint and dove grey all work together to create a soft, comfortable and interesting space.
Using our Jacaranda Way print as our hero piece for the setting, we pulled colours from this abstract print when choosing cushions and textiles to create a balanced and cohesive look. Plenty of layered textures were used to create a cosy ambience, continuing the artistic feel through our Smith table lamp and Blue Garden print.
Living Room Look 3: Modern Bohemian
Our final look was all about using contrast, graphic elements and bold pops of colour to create an earthy and modern bohemian setting. We worked with rich organic colours such as deep emerald, olive, teal and ivory with hints of charcoal and black. Using our Breathless and Familiar Faces artworks as focal points for the space, we then layered printed cushions, potted plants and ceramic homewares to balance out the setting.

Living Room Redecorating Tips
Redecorating your living room doesn’t have to break the budget or feel completely overwhelming. Keep these tips in mind to help you freshen up your living room styling throughout the seasons:
- Start with high-quality pieces when it comes to your key items such as lounges, floor rugs and coffee tables. These are usually the more expensive items that you won’t want to replace every six months - so opting for a higher quality will give you a bigger return on your investment.
- Using neutral colours and materials for your statement items will also make it easier to update the look as seasons and trends change. For these looks, we chose our popular Brighton sofa, Sadka rattan coffee table, Habitat floor rug and Aruna cane sideboard - each in versatile tones of greys and browns that won’t date quickly.
- One of the quickest and easiest ways to update your living room is through artworks and cushions. We recommend choosing your hero artwork first, and using these colours as inspiration for your soft furnishings. Check out our colour palette tips and inspiration here!
