The Industrial style is a great option for a minimalist styler wanting to achieve a very laidback and clutter free home. The industrial style is great for many reasons but here are a few of our favourites:
- You can go as far with it as you want or just incorporate subtle features into your home without it looking out of place
- You can use mis-matched EVERYTHING and call it ‘style’
- It doesn’t have to be perfect and there are no rules
- You can incorporate new and vintage pieces into your spaces
We have listed below 5 easy, and affordable ways to introduce the Industrial style into your home.
Exposed shelving
Steer away from traditional cabinetry, instead opt for exposed shelving with black or metal detailing. Piping detail is especially popular in the Industrial style so if you could combine the two, you will have found a perfect addition to your industrial home.

Exposed brick feature wall
If you are trying to achieve an industrial style home and aren’t fortunate enough to have any exposed brick walls in your home, create them with wallpaper.

Rustic & Vintage pieces
As we mentioned above, one of the great things about the industrial style is that you can combine new and old pieces in all of your spaces. There are no rules when it comes to your furniture and accessory selections! You can style grandma’s 100 year old reading chair with a brand new leather sofa from Nick Scali (or Tailored Space Interiors… had to give us a plug there).

Mixed Materials
Re-iterating again - the Industrial style has no rules so you can combine materials and textures to your pleasing! There is no need to match timbers or metals - actually mixing them up will help you achieve the industrial look! Think mixed metals, leather, reclaimed wood, ceramics and mismatched cutlery and kitchen sets. You can even get creative with your tap-ware selections!
Add a little greenery, but not too much!
We must admit that from an interior designers perspective, the industrial style is lacking the colour palette that you would see in other styles, so adding greenery to your industrial spaces will help liven things up. Just remember not to go too crazy. The main features of an industrial style home mainly remain in the architecture.
